The Shift

What is the current narrative that is shaping our lives?

A story is told about a gentleman who was walking through an elephant camp, spotted that the elephants were not being kept in cages or held by the use of chains. All that was holding them back from escaping the camp was a small piece of rope tied to one of their legs. As the man gazed upon the elephants, he was completely confused as to why the elephants did not just use their strength to break the rope and escape the camp. They could easily have done so, but instead they did not try to escape at all. The man was curious and wanted to know the answer to this he asked the trainer close to him as to why the elephants were just standing there and never tried to escape. The trainer replied, “When the elephants are very young and smaller in size we use the same size rope to tie them, at that age it is enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe that they cannot break away, they believe the rope can still hold them and so they never try to break free.”

A look at the story one can note how the mental condition and beliefs natured from a young age limited the elephants into moving out of the camp. It is apparent that the elephants were not breaking free and making efforts to escape from the camp because with time they adopted the belief that it just wasn’t possible. In such a situation where the elephants had the strength, power and capability to break free from the camp it took just one small rope to hold the biggest animal back. It all stemmed from the mindset that was engrained in the elephants at an early age, these at first in a bid to protect them later on became harmful as they hindered them preventing them from their freedom. The small rope was holding the elephants back, to a point that the camp became a comfort zone where they felt that all their possibilities had been realised in the camp hence no effort to break free from the camp was made.

In our current world we have adopted so many beliefs that have been passed on to us since childhood, we have grown up with and have become our reality. In the current state of affairs people are lamenting about the way things are in different facets of life and these point to the fact that change is happening around us we ought to choose how to respond to it. The current conversations that people have focus much on the reason why things are going wrong and less to do with the coming up of effective solutions What is missing is a shift from what we believed in, to a new perspective that allows us to overcome the hurdles that have been placed in our way. It is critical to shift our focus, energy and purpose in life Human beings have been gifted with the ability to adapt to change yet in most cases individuals are resistant to change.

Take a minute look at the way you are living your life currently is it based on your hopes or your fears. In so many times we have settled for less because it has become normal for it to be so in our lives it is critical that we shift from that space. In the time that we have been afforded in life it all lies with us on whether we will continue being second rate versions of individuals who never dared to dream. It is our choice to languish in a space of mediocrity or we move into the place of growth discovering our capabilities. Each day is a chance for us to shift our lives into better spaces. Never be comfortable by finding comfort in the comfort zone it is a key aspect if we are to realise some growth in life.

A shift in the narrative is key if we are to realise progress in life, the book came to fruition upon the discovery of a shift that happened in and ignited a fire that gave birth to this writing. Life discoveries begin when one realises that they ought to shift their energy, their minds, and their focus and take the right action to move in the right direction. It is critical in the rewriting of a new narrative and the ushering in of a new chapter at hand. Dreams come into life if we take action towards achieving them, it is critical to get to a point where we thrive to make our lives remarkable by making our existence worthwhile. “ If one advances confidently in the direction in the direction of his dreams and endeavours to live the life he has imagined , he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours”  Unknown. It is critical to have the resolve to advance in that path that has the greatest treasures that we are searching for.

The time has come for us to remove the certain boulders that have been placed in our way it behind them that lies our true treasure. Life will present us with different situations, it is our duty to decide how we will overcome these situations that come our way and the lessons that we derive from the experiences. In a society that has given us so many reasons why certain things can never be done, let us make a shift and usher in a new phase that will allow to have dreams that bring out the best in us. Now is the time to reformat our minds by removing the limiting beliefs that have made us be comfortable in the different spaces that we are in. It all becomes a choice whether to remain as we are or to remove the blinkers that have been placed in our faces.

Change in our lives can only happen if we take the steps to look beyond that which is said to be the ceiling and start building right from there. The only limitations that are in existence are the ones which we have set for ourselves, take that step towards a new phase in life. In a world that has given us so many beliefs and reasons why certain things can never be done why not present the answers as to why they can be done. A shift is needed to realise our growth, capability and potential these can be discovered once we aim to bring the answers to the beliefs that society has held for some time. It all emanates from the mindset, belief and perspective that we uphold all these contribute to whether we will make the much needed shift in our lives and rewrite the narrative that has been prevailing for a time.

The time for us to change our narrative is now, this moment, this minute, this day, this month and this year. A lot of times we have existed here on earth instead of us having fulfilling lives by limiting ourselves in the quest of our dreams and it is imperative to bear in mind that what appears to be the limit is just but an extension of the foundation. The path to our dreams requires a resolve to win, with nothing in mind but a desire to conquer and above all faith that everything will fall into place. It is time to break out of the spaces that have been holding us back. At the end of every story comes a conclusion to everything, allow me to end this one with a question. What’s next? In your life will you continue in the path you were or you will go the extra mile to start on a new journey? The most effective action that one can take is to take control of their destiny, individuals that decide to think different and be the difference. It is imperative to realise that we have one shot in life, a day comes only once and it can only be lived one time.

Shift the narrative, move into the unknown, think different and be the difference.

Day of the African Child

It is yet another remarkable event upon us that celebrates young people who managed to fight against forces that were affecting black people. In light of this it is very imperative to take into consideration what this means to the African youth today. Are we really free from all forces affecting our growth and development? Are we fully emancipated socially and economically among other areas?
A lot of developments have been evidenced in the different spheres as there has been a rise in the literacy rates, number of young people becoming active economic players and advent of great innovative solutions to Africa’s problems. It is without doubt that a great and new chapter has been opened for the African youth today. The positive improvement have made it a pleasure to be an African today.
However a look at all these developments there have been limations brought up which have affected peace of the African youth today. Alluding to the questions on whether we are all free from forces that affect our growth and development it becomes short to measure up to the state in which young people are supposed to be at. Growth and development will be effective once young people are emancipated from the psychological forces that have fiddled progress.
In addition when it comes to the social and economic emancipation the alarming rise of unemployment in our continent leaves a lot to desire. Social issues affecting young people in Africa today also raise an alarm as to the urgent need to effective address the issues at hand. It is evident in the high rise of cases of underdevelopment in most African countries dye to limiting internal and external factors.
It then makes one wonder the effective solution required for young people to be fully emancipated. I will advocate for a complete overhaul in the way we think and conduct our business as young people in Africa. As we celebrate this day peace is very important in order for young people to be fully emancipated. Young people need to hear and adopt a shift in the narrative on how the order of events in our continent and global sphere should be like. Young people in Africa need to have peace which will lead to a change in their plight and contribute greatly to progress as well as growth.
It is imperative that young people shift the narrative by being different through writing their own course and mapping their future once they attain peace.

The African Journey

We have come a long way in our journey as Africans filled so much experiences which have shaped us to be who we are today, in so many aspects our experiences are the pieces of our large puzzle of life as they make up a complete picture that reflects on the paths that we have travelled as individuals and groups. My journey has been a unique one filled with so many lessons however in so many times being a young person in Africa are I question whether we are free from forces that stifle growth? As a young person have I been fully emancipated socially and economically ?

In the awake of events I believe that is important to look at current challenges affecting the continent and consider how one can be instrumental in coming up with solutions to the challenges at hand. The general belief that many hold is the belief that for the things to change there had to be a complete overhaul in our leadership and failing to take charge of the situation. In the past as young people we were marginalised in various from the economic to the political spheres yet today there has been a shift in the tide. It is imperative to take note of how young people have managed to contribute in the change of events and forces shaping the history of the continent. In light of this it is very critical to take into consideration what this means to be an African especially the youth person today.

A lot of developments have been evidenced in the different spheres as there has been a rise in the literacy rates, number of young people becoming active economic players and advent of great innovative solutions to Africa’s problems. It is without doubt that a great and new chapter has been opened for the African youth today. Looking back in our history as a continent we have progressed from primitive stage developing over the years embracing new ways of doing things as this has greatly impacted our continent. The adoption of new ways of doing business, solutions that have been ushered in growth in different areas of our lives, high rise in our education system, economies booming attracting foreign investors

However on the other hand there are challenges affecting the African youth today which would be critical in the progress of the lives and the progress in the continent as a whole. In addition when it comes to the social and economic emancipation the continued rise of unemployment in our continent is alarming. Social issues affecting young people in Africa today also point to the urgent need to effectively address the issues at hand. It is evident in the high rise of cases of underdevelopment in most African countries due to limiting internal and external factors.

It then leads to consider that an effective solution required for young people to be fully emancipated. I advocate for a complete overhaul in the way we think, we see ourselves and conduct our business as young people in Africa. Young people  need to shift the narrative on how the order of events in our continent and global sphere should be like. Young people in Africa need to have self belief which will lead to a change and contribute greatly to growth of individuals as well as the continent.

It is imperative that young people shift the narrative by being different through writing their own course and mapping their future . Young people have what it takes to solve Africa’s problems and build a bright future for the continent. A new dawn awaits the African youth today , think different and be the difference. My journey has been a phenomenal one filled with lots of positive insight because of the kind of thinking that I have chosen my hope is to establish a new course in the continent by being a change agent.

The paradox of our time

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings,

but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints.

We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less.

We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time.

We have more degrees, but less sense;

more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, but more problems;

more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little,

drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired,

read too seldom, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions but reduced our values.

We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life; we’ve added years to life, not life to years.

Think different and be the difference.

Take a minute

Take a minute to think closely about life, the people around you , think about the things you have done and the way you have lived your life. Have you made an effort to make the world a better place? Take a minute to think of those who have no idea where their next meal will come from, who have no one to share precious moments with, who have no place to lay their heads and who have reached the crossroads in life .

We all have our struggles ,battles and challenges but is it the true purpose of our existence to live a selfish life? In a world with so much advancement has it ever dawned to us all that  there is someone longing for our greeting,  smile,  support,  advise and attention. We are too busy concerned about making a living, getting the finer things in life for ourselves yet fellow humans are longing to get fine with life.

It’s not the kind of car you drive, but how many people you drive home with. It’s not how much overtime you work but have you worked overtime to brighten someone’s day. Its not what you have done for yourself but what have you done to help others. It’s not the type of houses we build but the kind of communities we have. It’s not about us but about others around us.

Greet those you meet you never know what that might do for them, smile , help a stranger make someone’s day brighter . Take time to make someone’s life better, give them the priceless gifts that money can never buy, your time, attention and care. Consider those around you,  make the world a better place by being the sunshine in someone’s life.
